Ultra Trails Lake Tahoe - Race Report

Mountain lake surrounded by trees

Ultra Trails Lake Tahoe

By Johannes Griesshammer, TMS Staff

Race Recap

Forget your notions of Northstar being gentle terrain. Two laps on the steepest rock gardens Mount Pluto can dish out quickly set the tone for the start of the race. 5000 feet of vert over the first 12 miles got my blood pumping, and my cooldown from that was a rolling jog along the eastern end of the Western States Trail. A steep hop skip and jump up The Wall brought me to my favorite part of the run; Painted Rock. After that I started counting the miles (bad choice) across the Rim Trail, until I crossed back in to Northstar at Sawmill Flats, and finished in 8:25. Thanks to Chaz and the rest of the crew at Epic Endurance Events for putting on a fantastic and challenging course!
