When you shop at Tahoe Mountain Sports, you’re not just purchasing outdoor gear, you’re investing in the Truckee-Tahoe community. That’s because each year, we give back to local nonprofits working to protect our public lands, the mountain character of Truckee, improve winter and summer access to the outdoors, and provide educational resources to backcountry users. Investing in community is one of our core values, which is why each year we support a variety of local nonprofits working in the Truckee-Tahoe area through monetary donations, products, equipment, and services.
We strive to be a socially responsible leader in Truckee while finding creative opportunities to engage with our neighbors and boost the local economy through events/fundraisers, generous donations, and partnerships with charities and 501(c)3 organizations. This year, we’ve adapted to Covid with virtual events, fundraisers, and contests. In the midst of a global pandemic, we believe it’s more important than ever to show up for the community.
Dave Polivy, Tahoe Mountain Sports owner and Town of Truckee Mayor, advocates for shopping locally because dollars get circulated in the community rather than being spent elsewhere.
“It is very important to us to support our local community and this is one of the many ways we can do just that. I encourage folks to shop locally because it means the money stays here rather than drifting down to Reno or further out of town. We try to balance our giving to a variety of local sources and we only hope that folks recognize those donations and try to think of Tahoe Mountain Sports when stocking up on outdoor gear.”Dave Polivy, TMS Owner
Over $20,000 Donated to Local Nonprofits in 2020
So let’s rewind 2020 and take a look at the local nonprofits Tahoe Mountain Sports has served over the last 12 months. So far, the list of the 2020 year to date giving recipients includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Sierra Avalanche Center
- Tahoe Backcountry Alliance
- Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation
- Mountain Area Preservation
But the giving doesn’t stop there. This holiday season, Tahoe Mountain Sports will launch a Community Give Back campaign over the two-day annual Customer Appreciation Party. The goal is to donate 100 gift cards to essential workers in the community, the true heroes of 2020. Help us reach that goal and visit the store between Dec. 9-10th to make a donation.
Another holiday initiative, back after a successful run last year, is a partnership with Mountain Area Preservation (MAP). Now through Dec. 31st, we are donating $5 to MAP for every Patagonia item purchased. Shop online to browse our selection of Patagonia and give a gift that keeps giving!
We’re proud to lead the way for community involvement in the Truckee-Tahoe region through events, fundraisers, and partnerships. Make Tahoe Mountain Sports your go-to for holiday shopping and know that your dollars go right back into the community.
