A women's specific hydration touring pack built for smaller dimensions, but longer days
The Trans Alpine 26 SL has all the features you would need for any trip across the mountains
Features: hip belt with stabilising mesh wings and zippered pockets, compression straps, interior valuables pocket, side mesh pockets, dividable main compartment, safety Blink loop, 3 Liter Streamer, two front pockets and a helmet/extras holder
I agonized over many web sites and was concerned about ordering back packs on-line because none of the sites showed the interior compartments (either empty or with gear for comparison) and you weren't sure what you were really going to get. I was very happy when I saw this pack. My daily commute to work is by train, but I walk 1.8 miles each way to the station everyday and in the summer I need a lot of water for that walk. But I also need to be able to carry all the gear a typical commuter carries to and from work in a brief case or laptop bag. This bag is wonderfully designed and well balanced. My pack fully loaded with hydration and dvd player or laptop and other things ranges between 18 and 22 pounds and the pack supports the weight very well. I am very happy with my purchase.
My Favorite Pack--Highly Upgraded

I used the Deuter Trans Alpine 25 on a week long mountain biking trip from CO to UT and continued to use it after for commuting by bike to work and also as a gear bag. My pack was stolen recently and I was really bummed. I did some research and saw the Deuter Trans Alpine 26 and that there was an SL version for women. When I got the pack I was amazed at the changes. The basic pack is the same: double-compartment (changeable to single), separate hydration storage (including the reservoir itself), helmet storage in or outside the pack, mesh pockets on the side and on the hip belt, rain cover, the "airstripe" system for ventilation and a couple of pockets outside the pack. This new version has added
o snaps on the zippers to stop them from opening while riding (which was never a problem for me, but it's now a nice to have)
o better coverage of the zippers to deal with weather
o the top outside pocket is much larger (and still has a few compartments inside it, mesh and zipped)
o there is now an inside pocket which is really handy to keep smaller items in the pack easily accessible (headlamp, valuables etc...)
o the reservoir has been redesigned: the shape is better, the bite valve is easily cleaned and there is now a dirt guard for it--great idea!
o they've included a removable stabilization foam pad that fits behind the hydration storage area
o the female-specific shape of the SL is perfect!
Finally, this pack and the Trans Alpine 25 are the only packs I've tried that do not bump the back of my head/helmet when riding.
