Coldstream

Truckee residents and visitors looking for a quick mountain bike outing will find this short and sweet ride to be located conveniently close to town. Known as Coldstream due to its location near the Coldstream Valley, this fast and fun gem offers an easy climb up dirt roads and a nice downhill singletrack for some technical riding.

The ride is easily accessed off Donner Pass Road near the bridge over HW 80. If you are heading West on Donner Pass Road, go over the highway and turn left at the light onto Coldstream Road. If you are driving a car you can park near the gas stations, otherwise ride past them and onto the road heading into Donner Memorial State Park.

Stay to the left of the gravel and sand piles and start climbing up the road. After a little over a mile, turn right onto a steep jeep road and climb until you reach the railroad tracks. Turn right at the tracks, ride a short distance, and then follow the road where it continues uphill on the other side of the tracks. At about 2.3 miles, turn right onto the singletrack that heads downhill where the road makes a sharp left.

This trail features some fast switchbacks, some steep technical sections, and a fun rolling cruise at the finish that will dump you onto to the road you started on and leave you wanting more.
