Great for beginning climbers, and one of the closest Lake Tahoe climbing spots to the lake and Tahoe City
Just north of Tahoe City on Highway 89, Twin Crags is a good beginner area for those looking to gain some experience. Because it is south-facing, Twin Crags is one of the first to be clear of snow in the region and some people actually climb here year-round.
Interesting climbing on columnar basalt. Watch out for loose rock, especially near the tops of climbs. Not the best climbing area in Tahoe but awesome when everything else is snowed in. Most people top-rope here; if leading, be prepared for widely spaced bolts and ok gear.
From Tahoe City, head north on Hwy 89 for approximately one mile. Hook a right on the dirt road "Twin Crags Summer Home Tract". Drive to the end, then hike the ten-minute trail that heads east and upwards from the parking lot.
