Ortovox ABS packs
are the most versatile avalanche airbag backpacks
for backcountry skiing and riding
With an integrated back protector and just waiting for an airbag system, this Ortovox Free Rider 24 ABS Ready Backpack fits close to the body and offers plenty of attachment options for climbing
Removable Airbag ready for the
M.A.S.S.- Modular Airbag Safety System and the
ABS Avalanche Airbag Activation Unit which are sold separately
Ortovox places trust in their system partner's 28 years of ABS airbag expertise and its tried and tested twinbag technology
The versatility of the system is both innovative and unique. Just a few motions and only three minutes is all it takes to install the M.A.S.S. unit into any of the five backpack models
If conditions allow, installing the airbag system can be entirely avoided. In such cases the backpacks are up to 1880 grams lighter and gain several liters in additional volume - making them suitable for a broader spectrum of uses
What's more, the adjustment options prove just as versatile as the system itself. The release grip can be installed for either right or left-handed users and its height and angle can be freely adjusted. A stowable aluminum bracket protects the grip from unintended release
In addition to its unmistakable silhouette, the highlight here is the new removable SPS PRO2 back protector. It provides TUV-certified safety and can also be used separately with the included attachment straps
Available in three sizes and weighing in at only 300 grams it affords optimal ventilation courtesy of its ventilation holes
The ergonomically designed straps and the wide elastic hip belt with an innovative aluminum locking clasp ensure the protector fits perfectly and thus provides optimum protection
The Ortovox Free Rider 24 provides additional safety and ease of use even when wearing thick gloves. What's more, Ortovox packs rely upon robust aluminum and abrasion-resistant hypalon for their new multi-functional X-SKIFIX ski fastening system. Secured by locking aluminum clasps, the skis can be attached either diagonally or crossed, as can snowboards or snowshoes
An extra safety tool is always a good idea, and an Ortovox ABS Free Rider stores and carries all your gear conveniently and comfortably on your back, so why not? After all, avalanche airbag backpacks are known to save lives.

Q: Can I buy and use Unit abs? In the bag? Is it necessary to be able to use the abs unit?
Answered by Todd, September 30, 2014 at 10:05:10 AM EDT
A: This is just the backpack sold by itself. If you also want the ABS system, you must purchase the MASS unit and a cannister.
