Comments: Outside magazine just crowned the Deuter ACT Zero 50+15 its 2011 backpack of the year. Here's what they said:
It's the best kind of mutant. Part minimalist fast-packer, part monster hauler, the ACT Zero seemed like the perfect tool no matter what the mission. Technical peak-bagging day trip? We easily fit in a rope, ice ax, full rack, and extra layers. Multi-day expedition? No problem. The 50-liter rolltop cargo area can expand by 15 liters, and the roomy mesh side and back pockets suck up gear. Even better, the simple yet effective suspension system of removable aluminum stays and padded mesh didn't buckle under almost 60 pounds. But it was the smart details that won us over. Bungee loops for trekking poles, not just axes. A removable lid for ultralight summit dashes. A large air channel on the back and hyper-breathable harness padding. And at this price, the pack's a steal.

Comments: I bought this pack for one reason: It fits my back perfectly. I had tried on many other packs that felt alright, but was astonished when I put on the ACT Zero. It rides comfortably even fully loaded. I am 6 ft tall, 180 lbs, and usually wear a medium size pack.
Another draw is the roll top. It's quick and allows you to really compress the size of the pack. I find myself using it whenever I go on day hikes.
The zippered belt pouch is large enough to hold my point-and-shoot.
I fix my sleeping pad to the bottom of the pack using two carabiners and some elastic cord.
